About Us

The Red Squirrel Children’s Nursery was established on the outskirts of Dundee in 2006, with our sister Nursery opening in 2015 in the grounds of Glendoick Estate, a short drive from Perth City Centre.

Our inspiration is drawn from the outdoor education approach that is popular in Scandinavia. This approach encourages children to learn and explore through outdoor play and interaction with nature. We believe that experiencing the natural world is essential for a child’s development and we are dedicated to incorporating this philosophy into every aspect of our Curriculum.

Our services provide unparalleled early education and childcare for children ranging from infancy to 5 years old.

We work in conjunction with Dundee City Council and Perth & Kinross Council to offer funded provision for 3-5year-olds.

Why Us?

At The Red Squirrel Children’s Nursery, we are dedicated to recognising and fostering each child’s unique potential and individuality. We firmly believe that play is essential for a child’s growth and education, so we strive to create a safe, stimulating, and challenging environment that encourages curiosity and exploration.

Our team comprises passionate and dedicated individuals who understand the vital role that childhood plays in shaping one’s future.

Our holistic approach to each child's development enables children to reach their milestones.

Develop

Learning in a natural environment is advantageous, and we achieve this by utilising cooperative, process-based learning outcomes tailored to each individual child.

Encourage

Our approach enables children to explore and learn about their environment and the world around them through guided, hands-on experiences which support their individual needs.

Educate

We explore responsive opportunities indoors and outdoors through reflection and open dialogue. This promotes valuable intrinsic motivation.

Explore

Learn

We blend theoretical approaches such as Jean Piaget’s Schematic Approach, Reggio Emilia, and Montessori with the Curriculum for Excellence, Realising the Ambition, and the Pre-Birth to Three Curriculum. This leads to developing critical thinking, problem-solving communication, and creativity skills.

Play

We recognise the importance of entering a child’s world of play full of limitless magical opportunities. We scaffold individual learning to inspire autonomy by empowering the children to make self-discoveries.
